Design completes super-tall district, showcases sustainable public space.

Shanghai (Vocus) November 28, 2008 -- Groundbreaking ceremonies held today mark the start of construction on Shanghai Tower. The 632-meter building designed by Gensler, a leading global architectural design firm, advances sustainable design strategies and gives prominence to public spaces. The Shanghai Tower Construction & Development Co., Ltd., is the project’s developer. Thornton Tomasetti structural engineers, Cosentini Associates mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineers and the Architectural Design and Research Institute of Tongji University as the Local Design Institute will support Gensler. The development is slated for completion in 2014.

South Africa 2008-11-14 : Construction at Mbombela stadium ahead of schedule

Nelspruit - The Mbombela stadium in Nelspruit, which is to host some of the 2010 FIFA World Cup matches, is more than half-way complete and is expected to be given over to FIFA ahead of schedule next year.

Mpumalanga Culture, Sports and Recreations MEC Dinah Pule said the stadium was over 60 percent complete and would be ready in June next year.

She said the stadium was ahead of schedule despite repeated strikes over wage disagreements.

Gauteng housing provides 63 484 homes since last year

Johannesburg - The Gauteng Department of Housing has in the last five years made great strides in providing the province with homes and restoring dignity to those living in poor communities.

Addressing the media in Johannesburg on Tuesday, MEC for Housing Nomvula Mokonyane said in the current financial year alone, her department has delivered 63 484 houses. This far exceeded their target of 58 552 houses by the end of March 2008.

Johannesburg - The finance and construction industries have been identified as the most significant contributors to growth in South Africa's services sector.

Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Rob Davies, on Wednesday said in South Africa, service sectors contributed 74 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and 72 percent of employment.
