Architects’ bureaucrats strike it rich

Cape Town architects studying the 2016 annual report of the SA Council for the Architectural Profession have discovered that the bureaucrats running the Council have unilaterally awarded themselves a massive salary and benefit increases.

Some members believe there may be prima facie grounds for a deeper investigation and a forensic audit. The Council is a statutory body originally set up in the early 1970s solely for architects.

During that period, the staff consisted of the registrar and three others. In 2000 the law changed to include everyone practicing in the field. It now has a staff of 39. Cape Town commentator, analyst and journalist Keith Bryer reports
