| Hannah le
Roux is a South African architect and writer based at Wits. As an architect in practice, she has worked on
private and public projects including consulting on the
redesign of public space in Alexandra and Johannesburg's
inner city.
She is completing a book
on post-apartheid architecture in South Africa, as well
as writing on the architecture of the modern movement in
West Africa.
Her talk, Forms of
Agency, starts from the premise that it is impossible to
understand the everyday impact of the big events of the
last decade without acknowledging spatial change and the
extraordinary movement that has taken place within
cities.
The presentation will
look at the interlinked transformations in time and
space in South African cities, examining political
events and building programmes that have happened at a
few sites in South Africa.
ASC05 welcomes architecture students, professional architects and the interested public to a week-long series of lectures, discussions, tours, documentaries, exhibitions - and parties. The congress runs from
18 to 22 April, 2005.
