| One
of the unique benefits of belonging to the now
voluntary South
African Institute of Architects (SAIA) is the
ability to participate in its Continuing
Professional Development (CPD) programme.
Over the coming
months the Regional Institutes will be hosting a one
day crash course presented by Eyvind Finsen and
Eugene Barnard - both are members of the Practice
Committee of the SAIA. Eyvind and Eugene are well
versed in dispute resolution and mediation, and have
authored many of SAIA's notes on Professional
Practice.
The course is
designed to engage the participation of attendees
and aims to offer solutions to tricky real-life
situations. The following issues will be addressed;
- Confront and deal
with the 'Work at Risk' phenomenon
- Structure an
efficient professional team
- Aim at maximising
profit in a fee reduction environment
- Focus on a
positive cash flow and minimise debts
- Deal with threats
from a contractor to stop work
- Deal with
defective design by a selected sub-contractor
- Handle and
evaluate claims for extension of time
- Respond to claims
for professional negligence
You can take your
own practice problems to the open discussion session
at the end of the day. A course programme and
comprehensive notes will be issued to all delegates
upon registration. All
registered persons, who travel in excess of 100Km to
reach the venue, qualify for reimbursement of the
course fee by the SA Council for the Architectural
Profession. Fees are established by the individual
Regional Institutes.
