Engineers Association Calls for Territory Rearrangement

Luanda - The chairperson of the Angolan Association of Engineers, José Dias, this Wednesday here said that his institution defends the need of the national territory rearrangement to improve the urbanisation of cities of the country.

Speaking to ANGOP, the official referred that the construction of tall buildings in the country's capital (Luanda) damages the image of the city and occupies sites reserved for gardens and leisure.

Ministry Launches Competition On World Habitat Day

Luanda, 09/21 (Angop) - The Minister of Urbanisation and Environment, Diekumpuna Sita José, announced Saturday in Luanda, the creation of a competition called "Minua Universities 2008 Award" in matters of urbanism and architecture.

The minister who was speaking to press said that the prize aims at supporting the academic works and publicly recognizing the works developed in the Angolan universities and faculties.

In the ambit of competition, he refereed that there will be prizes in categories of urban planning, housing and social services.

Angola Prepares for World Habitat Day

Luanda - Luanda City has been chosen by the United Nations to host on October 6 the central act in commemoration of the World Habitat Day, celebrated annually every first Monday of October.

In a press conference delivered Saturday, the Urbanisation and Environment minister, Diekumpuna Sita José, said that top officials from the United Nations have been invited, such as the Under Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the United
Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT), Anna Kajumulo Tibaijuka.

Angola to Host World Habitat Day Events

Luanda, - Angola will host the main celebration of the World Habitat Day, October 6, in response to the UN Programme on Human Settlements (UN-Habitat).

According to a note from the Ministry of Urbanisation and Environment, the celebration of the date is intended to elevate the consciousness on the state of the cities and basic rights, an appropriate housing for all and remember the world about the collective responsibility for human settlement.

The topic for this year, reads the note, focuses on harmonious cities, economy, environment and social harmony among the cities.

Land Reserves Map for Housing Presented

Luanda, - A map of Land Reserve for housing purposes was presented Tuesday in Luanda, during a meeting that gathered the minister of Urbanisation and Environment, Diekumpuna Sita José, and vice governors of the country's provinces.
According to the Land Reserve Map, there are some 98,993 hectares of plots of land for distribution countrywide.

Speaking to ANGOP, Diekumpuna Sita José stated that the creation of these reserves will facilitate the government to create, until 2012.
